Over years in worship ministry, one question comes up again and again: Is it okay to listen to secular music? Song has long been part of many Christian traditions, but the religion has historically not been as welcoming to Christian LGBTQ+ artists.

Today, a new generation is refusing to compromise either part of their identity, and are forging a more accepting church. And yes, you can even have fun along the way. Much has been said and written about the type of music to which Christians should listen.

Objections exist about the volume of secular music, the lyrics, the types of instruments played, and the style of music. The intersection of faith and media consumption presents a complex landscape, particularly for Christians navigating the pervasive influence of secular music.

Some songs uplift. This article delves into this intersection, examining the potential impact of secular music on a Christian’s worldview and spiritual growth, while considering scriptural principles and the evolving technological means of media access.

Their goal was to help me understand that what I allowed in through my ears could potentially plant seeds in my heart. And what of inventions made by gay peoples? Growing up in a Christian household and attending a traditional conservative church, I was taught that secular music was pretty much sin coming through the radio.
